The Problem:

<aside> 🖊️ Sustainable product design is often inaccessible for early stage companies with little technical knowledge about the topic. Currently, there are many life cycle assessment (LCA) tools available (Ecolizer, Sustainable Minds, etc.) that help companies analyze the environmental impact of their products. However, these tools are complicated and require a great deal of sustainability knowledge and engineering expertise to use, which excludes early stage, non technical designers. Because of this barrier to entry with LCAs, products that are eventually created, developed, and launched may not be as sustainable as possible.

Our Solution:

<aside> 🖊️ EcoSketch is a life cycle assessment (LCA) tool that uniquely caters to early stage designers with minimal technical knowledge in environmental engineering, by providing an easy to use and analyze interface. The desktop website calculates the net environmental impact of physical products from conception to degradation. This includes calculating and visualizing impact points across life cycle stages, impact type, and parts of the product, while taking uncertainty into account.

The Impact

<aside> 🖊️ EcoSketch gives product designers with less technical background a way to prioritize sustainable product design early on in their design process. With this information made more accessible, EcoSketch hopes to help launch a new generation of products that are more sustainable than ever.
