The Problem:

<aside> 🖊️ For children with digestive disorders, making dietary changes can be a daunting idea. To explain how to best alter eating habits, doctors often provide handouts for families to read—but these handouts are difficult to engage with for younger patients, and they present obstacles for patients with lower literacy rates or those whose primary language isn't English. Given that visual learning is often very effective and has greater reach, instructional and well-researched videos would be useful for patients, students, and caregivers alike.

Our Solution:

<aside> 🖊️ The DALI team produced 3 science-based videos that focus on providing nutritional information in an accessible and engaging manner. Each 3-minute animation describes a different way to maintain a healthy diet depending on the patient's needs, such as a gluten free diet, a low sugar diet, and the FODMAP diet. Understanding the how and why of dietary changes can be difficult, especially for children. The videos mitigate this stress by explaining both why the diet is helpful and also how to find alternative food products that are just as delicious, providing a delightful complement to existing nutrition resources.

The Impact:

<aside> 🖊️ The videos will serve as educational and teaching tools for families, residents, and health providers in clinic or hospital settings to help kids understand their diet changes and increase awareness of digestive disorders along the way.
