The Problem:

<aside> 💡 Sarcopenia is a disease that that comes with aging and causes people to lose muscle mass and strength. This is a large problem among the elderly population because it can lead to functional limitations and disability. Many elderly patients get prescribed physical therapy exercises in order to keep their strength up. However, patients don’t always do their prescribed workouts at home, and it is difficult for doctors to know whether they are doing them.

The Solution

<aside> 💡 Theraband is an app that connects via bluetooth to an exercise resistance band with a force sensor. The app allows patients to watch instructional videos on how to do each exercise and a way to track their progress. This app is for research purposes, so it allows our partner to keep track of their patients’ exercise habits. All of the data, dates that patients worked out, reps, force, and color of the band, is stored on our database.

The Impact:

<aside> 💡 Theraband aims to lessen the effects sarcopenia in elderly people, thereby improving their mobility and quality of life. With roughly 10-20% of adults suffering from sarcopenia, the impact of an app like this would be huge.
